Oleksandra Matviichuk and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak will become the keynote speakers at X LMF
In 2024, the conference will be held on 16-18 May. The focus topic: “Common Language for Common Sense: Search For Meaning in Polarized World”.
The keynote speakers of the X LMF programme will be Oleksandra Matviichuk and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. They will deliver their speeches on 16 May. Live broadcasts of the events will be available on the Lviv Media Forum's Facebook page.
About the speakers
Oleksandra Matviichuk — Nobel Peace Prize laureate in 2022, head of the Center for Civil Liberties, and a human rights lawyer.
She initiates projects aimed at developing democracy and protecting human rights. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, she co-founded the initiative "Tribunal for Putin", which documents the war crimes of the Russian invaders.
She received the Democracy Defender Award and participated in the Ukrainian Emerging Leaders Program at Stanford University. In 2022, she received the prestigious Right Livelihood Award and was named one of the 25 most influential women by the Financial Times.
Under her leadership, the Centre for Civil Liberties received the Nobel Peace Prize 2022 (together with Russian and Belarusian human rights organisations).
Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak — an American literary critic and philosopher, professor at Columbia University. She is a co-founder of the theory of postcolonialism, focusing in particular on the role of women in postcolonial discourse.
Born in India, she was educated at the University of Calcutta and then at Cambridge. She is the author of ten academic and non-fiction books, one of which is “In Other Worlds: Essays In Cultural Politics” has been translated into Ukrainian.
She is an activist in the International Women's Movement and advocates for environmental justice and the promotion of quality education in rural areas. She has translated into English the works of Jacques Derrida, as well as works by authors from the former British and French colonies.
More about the program and terms of participation
The X LMF program is formed by two threads: Common Language and Common Sense. Over three days, speakers and participants will work together to find common ground and define the role of media, civil society, international organisations, national authorities, diplomats and other stakeholders in this search. The participants will take part in workshops, discussions, public interviews, presentations and masterclasses.
The conference will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation into Ukrainian. The full programme is available here.

Since 2013, LMF has been the largest conference about media and for media professionals in Eastern and Central Europe. It is organised by the Lviv Media Forum NGO. Last year, the organisers changed the format and focused on issues that are critical to international support for Ukraine in times of great war.
