Book Club Meeting: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

On Wednesday, August 19, at 4:30 PM, we welcome you to Lviv Media Hub for another Book Club meeting, organised by Lviv Media Forum in collaboration with the creative space KIVSH and the Choven Publishing House. This time, we will discuss A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

The novel explores the lives of women in Afghan society against the backdrop of the country’s changing political and social landscape throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries. Through the stories of its two main characters, Hosseini portrays the hardships, resilience, and choices of women living through decades of war and political upheaval.

There are relatively few works of fiction that explore Afghanistan and the events that have shaped the country — and continue to shape it today. This makes A Thousand Splendid Suns a good starting point for our discussion about Afghanistan, its history, and the experiences of those who have lived through it.

We will send mandatory reading excerpts from the book to all participants who register for the event, though we encourage you to read the full book if possible.

The discussion will be moderated by Ihor Balynskyi, editor and co-founder of the Choven Publishing House and research analyst at Lviv Media Forum.

Venue: Lviv Media Hub (KIVSH creative space, 120h Shevchenka Street)

Participation requires prior registration via the link.

Ticket: UAH 250 (donation to the organisation’s charity fund).
