The Donor Landscape of Media Support in Ukraine

The Lviv Media Forum research team has conducted this study to understand how the so-called media donor landscape works in Ukraine. By the term “donor landscape", we imply the space for interaction that arises in the conditions of cooperation between international donor organisations and the media, which receive grants to be spent on their work.

This study presents the first public attempt of systematic analysis of the landscape and issues of donor support for the media in Ukraine. The purpose of the study is to determine which donor organisations support the media in Ukraine, how the support is structured and what principles guide it, which media receive it, what difficulties the media and donors face, where the interests clash or coincide, and what can be done to change the practices and policies of the participants to combine efforts and cooperate more effectively.

We believe that coordination of actions and a better understanding of each other's motivations, interests and needs will help donors and the media make donor support programs in that particular area more efficient and have a positive impact on the media environment, and Ukrainian society as result.  If you have any questions about the study, please email bilousenko@lvivmediaforum.com.

The study was conducted with the financial support of the International Media Support (IMS) organisation.
