Presentation of the Media Viability Index: A Study of the Resilience of Ukrainian Media During the War
On July 28 at 4:00 PM, the Lviv Media Forum will present the results of Ukraine’s first “Media Viability Index of Ukrainian Media: People, -Funds, Security” study — a tool designed to assess the ability of Ukrainian newsrooms to operate sustainably, adapt to change, and remain viable amid the full-scale war.
The study was conducted by the Lviv Media Forum’s Research Department between January and July 2026. The Index is based on an online survey of 117 newsrooms from different regions of Ukraine and supplemented by 26 in-depth interviews with media experts.
During the presentation, the research team will introduce the methodology and findings of the study, as well as discuss the key challenges facing Ukrainian media today.
During the event, we will:
— present how the Media Viability Index was developed and which indicators it includes;
— share the results of the assessment across three key areas: finances, teams, and security;
— discuss the factors that most influence media resilience and their ability to operate in the future;
— explore how the Index can help track changes in Ukraine’s media sector and identify areas where support is needed.
The presentation speakers will be:
- Olha Bilousenko, External Research Coordinator, Head of the Research Team;
- Otar Dovzhenko, Lviv Media Forum Expert, Researcher;
- Yaryna Pynda, Junior Research Analyst at the Lviv Media Forum;
- Kostiantyn Donchenko, Senior Research Analyst;
