Lviv Media Forum will create a Western Ukrainian media network concerning fighting disinformation

The team of NGO «Lviv Media Forum» will create a Western Ukrainian media network concerning fighting disinformation - this project will help local media to combat the manipulation of information, toxic narratives, and disinformation more efficiently.0

«There are currently a lot of projects in Ukraine that deal with the research and monitoring of fake information and propaganda. Our media network of fighting disinformation is an attempt to make one more step towards the action against outright lies in the media and social networks. To put it simply - we are going to move on from diagnosing to actual treatment. We believe that media as institutes, responsible editors, and journalists are among the most important elements of the infrastructure of protection against informational attacks and manipulation. Our team is planning to improve the capacity of local publishers to work with disinformation and to overcome it constructively» — notes the executive director of the NGO «Lviv Media Forum» Yurii Opoka.

Within the framework of the project experts and partners of Lviv Media Forum will analyse the main channel and the means of spreading disinformation in four regions of western Ukraine: Lviv, Zakarpattya, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi.  Lviv Media Forum will prepare expert recommendations for the newsrooms regarding disinformation, and will also initiate a network of partnerships with the local publishers in those regions. The main task of the network will be working on specific steps aimed at combating manipulation in the regions' informational fields, and the implementation of the experts' recommendations.    

The results of the project will be presented on the Western Ukraine Disinformation Forum within the annual LMF Talks, which will be held in the fall of 2021 in Uzhgorod. 

The project «Western Ukrainian Media Network On Fighting Disinformation» is implemented with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
