Book Club Meeting: “Shah of Shahs” by Ryszard Kapuściński

We invite you to the next Book Club meeting, where we will discuss Shah of Shahs by Ryszard Kapuściński. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 15, at 5:00 PM at Lviv Media Hub.

The Book Club is organised by Lviv Media Forum in collaboration with the creative space KIVSH and the Choven Publishing House. This time, participants will explore Kapuściński’s Shah of Shahs — a landmark work of Polish reportage.

In this book, Kapuściński captures his experience of being in Tehran during the Iranian Revolution of 1978–1979 (also known as the Khomeini Revolution). Reading Shah of Shahs offers a deeper understanding of Iran’s 20th-century history. Although the book was first published in 1972, its context remains highly relevant today, particularly in light of the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran.

Mandatory reading excerpts from the book will be sent to all registered participants, though we encourage everyone to read the book in full.

The discussion will be moderated by Ihor Balynskyi, editor and co-founder of the Choven Publishing House and research analyst at Lviv Media Forum.

Venue: Lviv Media Hub (KIVSH creative space, 120h Shevchenka Street)

Participation requires prior registration via the link.

Ticket: UAH 250 (donation to the organisation’s charity fund).
