The main theme of the largest media event of the country in 2018 is “When Everything Becomes Media”. Traditionally, Lviv Media Forum has gathered about 850 participants, including 112 speakers from 17 countries of the world.
“It is very important for us to ensure that such events as LMF develop. The media industry is constantly facing various challenges – you are aware of them even better than we are,” Hugues Mingarelli, EU Ambassador to Ukraine, addressed the participants of the Lviv media forum. “In particular, these are fake news, information attacks, the crash of the traditional media models, the issues of security of various media platforms. Media are also facing political pressure, so it’s important for us to support independent media. One of the key features of media in Ukraine is the development of investigative journalism. These journalists are doing what the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine are failing to do. We support this trend as well. Just like your country’s fight against its cancer – corruption.”
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi has urged journalists, the participants of the Lviv Media Forum not to be afraid to tell the truth, “This Forum is special: there is an atmosphere of trust here, and you are the ones creating this atmosphere. I have always treated journalists as people knowing their vocation. And one must have a great courage not to be afraid to tell the truth. So I have one important request to you all – never be afraid to speak the truth, no matter how hard it is.”
At this year’s Forum there will be discussions and presentations within the framework of several thematic directions – digital media, investigation, content, politics, monetization. Among the innovations of LMF-2018, there are discussions on football journalism, state communications, and a panel on educational and grant opportunities for the media and journalists.
